The Five Human ValuesPrema

Love

Unconditional, selfless love that recognizes the same divinity in all beings. Sai Baba taught that love is the foundation of all human values.

What it means

Understanding Love

Prema is not a feeling that comes and goes. It is the recognition that the same life, the same divinity, moves in every being — and the natural care that flows from seeing this.

Sri Sathya Sai Baba taught that Love is the source from which the other four values arise. In thought it becomes Truth. In action it becomes Right Conduct. In feeling it becomes Peace. In understanding it becomes Nonviolence. Take Love away, and the other values become rules. With Love, they become a way of life.

This is why Love is one of the basics we name alongside food, water, and shelter. To be seen and cared for is not a luxury. It is part of what it means to be fully human.

How Love shapes what we do

  • Service is recognition, not charity. We do not give downward to people in need. We offer what we can across, to people who share our own nature. As Maitreya teaches, we are one life, meeting itself in countless forms.
  • Love is shown in consistency. Patient partnership, showing up, and following through are how love becomes real in the world.
  • Every act of genuine care is a teaching. A rebuilt home says something words cannot: you matter, and you were not forgotten.
A practice for today

Living Love

  1. Today, look at one person you would usually pass without noticing.
  2. Silently acknowledge: the same life that is in me is in you.
  3. Notice what changes in you — and in how you treat them.
