Discovering the inner stillness that is not dependent on external circumstances. True peace arises from within.

Understanding Peace

Most of us look for peace in the world: when the problem is solved, when the noise stops, when life finally settles. But circumstances never settle for long, and a peace that depends on them is always about to be lost.

Shanti is different. It is the stillness that is already present beneath every thought and feeling — the quiet in which even turmoil appears. It is discovered, not achieved.

And yet we never use this teaching to dismiss real hardship. A person who has lost their home needs shelter first. Inner peace and outer care belong together.

In the Foundation’s work

How Peace shapes what we do

  • A home is a place where a person can finally rest. Rebuilding shelter in Nepal is, quite literally, making room for peace: a safe place to sleep, to grieve, and to begin again.
  • We work without panic or haste. Crisis invites rushed decisions. We aim to move steadily, with care, so that what we build lasts.
  • In time, we hope to offer contemplative support. Freely offered, trauma-informed teachings for those living through loss. This is part of our vision, not yet our current work.
A practice for today

Living Peace

  1. Wherever you are, let your attention rest on three slow breaths.
  2. Notice the stillness the breath is moving through — the space that was here before the breath and remains after it.
  3. Carry a little of that stillness into the next thing you do.
